NIDOS Effectiveness Tool – A guide for self-assessment on good practice in international development
NIDOS members have agreed on five principles for effectiveness in international development. The tool takes these 5 principles and puts forward a number of benchmarks and self-assessment questions which allow an organisation to assess to what extent it meets these principles, document their existing good practice and work towards improving their practice where weaknesses are highlighted.
Good Practice Resources - Codes of Practice and General Information
Here you’ll find established codes of good practice that aim to promote basic standards in international development, plus materials from our networking events as well as other documents and resources. There is also a link to the One World Trust database of self-regulation initiatives in international development around the world.
Good Practice Resources - North-South Partnership
Many UK-based organisations work in collaboration with organisations overseas. NIDOS members identified North-South Partnership as a key aspect of good practice and Principle 5 of the Effectiveness Tool focuses on this aspect. This section contains an introduction to partnership as well as a collection of related views and ideas.
Good Practice Resources - Monitoring & Evaluation
Monitoring and Evaluation was also identified by NIDOS members as a key aspect of good practice, and Principle 3 of the Effectiveness tool is about being a Learning organisation. Systems for monitoring the progress and impact of projects are essential to ensure learning and improved effectiveness.
Good Practice Resources - Governance
Strong governance, policies and procedures can improve organisations’ efficiency and accountability – and help them to ensure they’re delivering good practice. Principle 4 of the Effectiveness tool focuses on this aspect. This section has links and examples of relevance to good governance.
