Cross Party Group on International Development

When:
Wednesday, 19 April, 2017 - 13:00 to 14:30
Where:

Scottish Parliament, Committee Room 1

This meeting of the Cross Party Group on International Development will focus on Zambia, as well as climate change/justice.

This year is an important one for Scotland with various pieces of legislation and policy coming before Parliament such as the new Climate Bill, the Climate Change Plan, and the Energy strategy.

Richard Dixon from Friends of the Earth Scotland and Stop Climate Chaos Scotland will share with the group his thoughts on why this year at a domestic and international level is significant regarding climate change.

We know the fight against poverty and the fight against the effects of climate change are interrelated efforts, poor communities living in developing countries are the most affected by climate change, yet have done the least to cause it. Therefore we will also hear from Alistair Dutton the Director of SCIAF who will outline to the group the need for climate justice and give an overview of a climate project in Zambia.

The group will also hear a presentation about Zambia, given that it is also a priority country for the Scottish Government. We are lucky that Dr. Kalonde Kasengele from the Scotland - Zambia Association has kindly agreed to speak to the group about his reflections on Zambia.

As ever please could you arrive at least 15 mins early to allow time to get through parliament security. In the meantime if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me and I hope to see you on the 19th.

To register, email Ryan McQuigg at Oxfam by Thursday 13 April.
