International Voluntary Service

Description
International Voluntary Service (IVS) is part the worldwide volunteer exchange network and peace movement Service Civil International (SCI). IVS and SCI are bringing together volunteers from different countries, cultures and faiths to work and live together on short-term volunteer projects to increase international understanding and help to break down cultural barriers that often lead to violent conflict. The volunteer projects aim to incorporate peace education elements and provide volunteers with opportunities to learn conflict resolution skills, to learn about causes and effects of conflict on communities around the world, and in many cases to learn from the local situation in which they are volunteering. Each volunteer project is set up in partnership with a community or voluntary organisation or charity and the work the volunteers carry out on each volunteer project supports local community development.
