Edinburgh Global Partnerships

Description

EGP is a student run charity which facilitates small scale development projects in partnership with communities around the globe. The projects always originate within a community or local organisation, and EGP provides financial, motivational and project management support. A team of 6-8 volunteers per project fundraise and attend training sessions within Edinburgh before heading our to our partner in the summer to implement the project, which is wither construction in nature (school block, dispensary) or social cooperation (working with street children, HIV awareness). Every year we run about 9 projects and have about 80 members or volunteers.Part of work within Scotland is centred on development education, and we have a community links program dedicated to linking our overseas work with work in Scotland. We also have a global affairs program, which aims to raise awareness of the wider issues behind development work, such as debt relief or trade justice. This also involved campaigns, such as joining the Make Poverty History coalition. We are very interested in widening our role in development education, as well as involvement in campaigns relevant to small-scale development work, such as promoting volunteering and fair trade.

EGP's aim is To support community led initiatives, working together with people to help them achieve their goals for development, to allow students to develop new skills and a wider perspective on the world we live in. EGP wishes to promote international understanding through projects that are focussed on building friendship, trust and respect between EGP volunteers and people across the world.
